An Amazon building collapses during a tornado in Maryland, killing 2 people

Two men were killed after the collapse of part of an Amazon distribution warehouse following the destruction of a tornado in Maryland's largest city Friday, officials said.

Firefighters in Baltimore City have identified Saturday men Andrew Lindsay, 54 years old and Israel Espana Argote. No age was provided for Argote.

The National Weather Service announced that an EF-1 tornado had been fired along the Baltimore city and county line at 9:42 pm. Friday before traveling two and a half miles.

According to the NWS, the tornado would have maximum winds of 105 mph and a maximum width of 150 yards. It was the first deadly tornado in Maryland in 16 years, reported WJZ-TV.

Serious storm damage has been reported in the industrial complex where the tornado has been hit, including trucks and uprooted trees.

At Amazon's facility, the roof was blown onto the building and a 50-foot concrete wall sank into the structure, killing both men inside.

In a statement to FOX Baltimore, a spokeswoman for Amazon said the two men were third party contractors and not Amazon employees. No other injuries were reported when severe storms devastated the area.

"The safety of our employees and our subcontractors is our top priority and for the moment, the building remains closed," the statement said. "We are extremely grateful for the quick response of the emergency services.Our thoughts and prayers are going to families affected by the tragic event of Friday night."

The National Meteorological Service had previously reported thunderstorms in the area accompanied by gusty winds and heavy rains.
