GM creates a global electric bike and seeks to get help for its branding during a contest

General Motors is already announcing as Tesla's second competitor after the ceiling of 200,000 vehicles set for the federal electric vehicle tax credit; and it is planned to produce 20 new fully electric vehicles by 2023.

Part of this strategy, while apparently parallel or perhaps parallel, is for e-bikes for "consumers around the world". On Friday, the company showed the first images of two bikes that it has developed, one folding and the other compact. And that they will be available for sale in 2019.

Until now, GM has very little information about the bike, and nothing about the specs, how much it could build, or who are these partners of the bike industry. But it promises "an exclusive, small and powerful propulsion system" and indicates that motorcycles are "born of the same design as cars, by the same award-winning designers". It has also been suggested that motorcycles could take advantage of GM's OnStar connectivity – or at least OnStar telemetry expertise – as a "last mile" solution for journeys that start in a personal car or helicopter, for example.

The builder points out that by 2030, 60% of the world's population will live in cities.

GM also did not reveal how it would sell or offer e-bikes. Will they be included as accessories with electric vehicles like the EV Bolt; sold as part of an independent business; or offered through its Maven car sharing operation and abseiling?
