The Cleveland Cavaliers are a sad and dysfunctional mess. But according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, it's even worse than we already know. Apparently, the front office is resuming negotiations with the players, the locker room is divided, no one knows their role, and the acting head coach (or maybe just plain old) Larry Drew does not seems not to do much about it. – which is good because the players do not seem inclined to listen anyway.
Kyle Korver wanted an exchange if LeBron left, but did not understand
The Cavaliers' veterans do not seem very happy lately, and Kyle Korver is one of them. None of them has had a lot of playing time lately (which prompted JR Smith to basically ask the Cavs to trade against him last week), but Korver would have another reason to get angry at the bench every night. According to Vardon, when general manager Koby Altman signed Korver in 2017, the two men signed a very tight deal: if LeBron James cancels his contract after the 2017-2018 season, Korver would be traded or redeemed before the next season.
Since Korver is still with the Cavaliers, it is obvious that their "understanding" has not been honored.
So when LeBron left on July 1 for the Lakers, Korver asked the Cavs to move him. They refused because, they told him, they wanted him to play and that the team is trying to win.
Before the team reached the field this season, the Cavaliers were still saying they were in "win now" mode, and that's what Korver said. It seems laughable in retrospect. The Cavs are 1-8 and sit in last place in the East. It is less "win now" and more "for the sake of all that is sacred, please win a second match".

The Cavs have even more problems, somehow
Korver's articles are not even the only terrible thing in Vardon's article. There are many more. Unsurprisingly, there is a gap between the older players of the LeBron era and the sheer number of young players, and the interim head coach – or maybe he's just the one. 39, head coach, both teams are still working on this – Larry Drew is doing nothing to fill that.
