The alleged barricade situation in New Hope turns out to be a hoax

NEW HOPE, Pa. (WPVI) –

A sick hoax left New Hope on the edge Sunday.

Residents were invited to stay on site just before 5pm. after one appellant told 911 that he was in a house in the first block of West Ferry Street, he had a hostage.

"He said he shot his girlfriend, he had a hostage, an IED and was about to blow up the house," said Mike Cummings of the New Hope Police Department.

Police believe that he was using Facebook's live feed from a nearby store to make the police believe he was in the house. They thought that he could see each of their movements.

He threatened to shoot random people if the police approached.

"At that point, we think it's an error and that someone thought he was having a hoax and that he was getting information from a live stream located in one of the stores, "Cummings said.

The swatting occurs when a person calls the emergency services and sends armed officers or SWAT teams.

The farce has sown fear and confusion among the residents.

Some employees of the popular Logan Inn have been invited to evacuate. They feared that there was an active shooter.

"When the employees were in the lobby, we searched all the rooms, everyone came down," Yuriy Stolyarchuk said.

The police cut live food and the robots entered the house and found no one in the house.

The residents of the house who were out of town were informed and they were safe and unharmed.

The caller had a blocked number and even called after the police realized it was a hoax.

New Hope has never had that kind of thing before.

"It is one of our busiest days of the year, the city was completely blocked," said Mayor Laurence Keller.

Officials do not yet know how much this farce has cost the person responsible because they could have called anywhere, but they will face serious charges.
