As candidates and their political operations urged voters to go to the polls this weekend, early voting was hot again, with people queuing to vote before polling day.
In Cook County alone and in Chicago, nearly 80,000 people voted this weekend, according to the Cook County Clerk and the Chicago Election Council.
Voters in the suburbs of Cook County recorded 39,805 advance votes over the weekend – 22,275 Saturday and 17,530 Sunday. Among the busiest cities were Evanston, with 2,313 early voters this weekend, Arlington Heights with 1,730 voters and Palatine with 1,638 voters, according to the clerk's office.
To date, more than one million voters in all states have voted before Tuesday's election.
According to the Illinois Election Council, approximately 790,000 people in the state voted in person or by mail before polling day in 2014. Approximately 1.9 million ballots were cast prior to election day. 2016 ballot.
