The 29-0 shutout of LSA in Alabama has solidified Crimson Tide's position at the top of the US TODAY Sports College ranking. N ° 1 at the beginning of the weekend, the Tide have not done anything that would justify a move in the ranking.

But the pursuit of number 1 is not as clear as you might think. In Alabama, the fierce national rival of the program, No. 2 Clemson, is currently undergoing a similarly dominant race through the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Clemson has defeated his last four opponents by the combined score of 240-36, the last Saturday's 77-16 defeat of the unfortunate Louisville. Since a close win against Syracuse, the Tigers have looked at every part of a team that can turn the tide.

As in Alabama, the Tigers have five wins against teams with a winning record. When Tuesday released the final standings for college football, Clemson is expected to have two wins against top-25 teams – Syracuse and North Carolina State – against Alabama against LSU.

That's not to say that Alabama did not earn the right to be in the standings, especially after Saturday's strong performance in one of the most intimidating environments in college football. But Clemson has a case for No. 1 and has no competition for No. 2. As expected in August, the championship race is not focused almost solely on the Tigers and Crimson Tide.
