A fundraising campaign by the Big Little Sanitation company in Fairfield raised more than $18,000 for the charitable programs at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center, part of Smilow Cancer Hospital.

Customers swapped their blue recycling bins for pink bins for a minimum donation of $10 donation to help Kick Cancer to the Curb. Big Little Sanitation matched each gift while Cascade, the company that manufactures the bins, donated another $5 per bin, bringing the total to $18,150.

The campaign was part of Pink Pledge, a month-long campaign held each October and organized by the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. As part of Pink Pledge, the breast center works with community partners to raise breast cancer awareness and raise funds for their programs that help women without insurance get no-cost breast cancer screening and diagnostic services.

“We are grateful to Big Little Sanitation and all or Pink Pledge partners for making this October a huge success,” says Dr. Donna Twist, executive director, Norma Pfriem Breast Center, in a news release. “Big Little was our sole sanitation partner, and their pink bins were a real show of support for our patients.”

Norma Pfriem Breast Center provides nearly 1,400 uninsured and underinsured women with financial assistance for patient care and educates over 10,000 women and girls about breast cancer risk each year.
