Bengals put Carl Lawson on injured list with ripped ACL at the end of the season

Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Carl Lawson had a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a 37-34 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 28.

The former star of Auburn was injured in the first defensive series of the Bengals. But as Cincinnati was entering his remaining week, the Bengals did not put Lawson on the injured reserve until Monday, when they started preparations for the match week for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Lawson will miss the rest of the 2018 NFL season.

Lawson has joined the Bengals as the NFL 2017 draft fourth round pick. Cincinnati has declared his intention to convert Lawson from a collegiate defenseman to a professional outside linebacker, but he played defensively during his rookie rush season.

Lawson led NFL rookies with 8.5 sacks in 2017 and earned a spot on the All-Rookie team.

After spending his first season in the NFL on the Bengals list as an outside linebacker, he has been designated as the defensive end this season.

Lawson had recorded a bag in 2018 and had played 38% of Cincinnati's defensive catch before the game on October 28th.

Lawson was the fifth Cincinnati player to suffer an ACL tear since the start of the training camp. In the previous five seasons, six players from Bengal had a torn ACL.
