The astronaut model Starman launched into space earlier this year by SpaceX has now overtaken Mars, the aerospace company revealed.

Starman, who drove the Tesla Roadster in February aboard the Falcon Heavy rocket in Cape Canaveral, Florida, crossed the threshold of the red planet, according to a SpaceX tweet released Friday.

"Next step, the restaurant at the end of the universe," said SpaceX, a reference to the series "A guide to the hitchhiker of the galaxy".

SpaceX, led by CEO Elon Musk, drew attention in February after revealing that he would launch Starman and Tesla in space. Musk said that rocket test flights often include concrete or steel blocks, but they wanted to give a boost to the launch of Falcon Heavy in February.

"It seemed extremely boring," Musk said of the concrete block or steel transaction before the launch. "Of course, everything that is boring is terrible, especially businesses, so we decided to send something unusual, something that made us feel."

At the time of launch, the Roadster carrying Starman was playing "Space Oddity" by David Bowie.

Starman is wearing a fully functional SpaceX space suit, and his movements in space will help the company test the suit and bring it closer to flying with human crews.
