A 12-year-old girl injured in an Alabama shopping center was released from the hospital. Mom is trying to help others

A 12-year-old girl was injured by gunfire inside the Riverchase Galleria. Thanksgiving night was released from the hospital.

"I'm so grateful for all the messages, prayers and gifts we received," said her mother, Julie Moore Bennett, in a message to AL.com on Monday. "Molly is at home now and is doing a lot better."

The shooting took place shortly before 22 hours. November 22 on the second floor of the mall. Hoover police said that an argument between several young men had resulted in gunfire. An 18-year-old man, whose name was not disclosed, was injured, as well as Molly. Emantic Fitzgerald "EJ" Bradford, 21, was shot dead by Hoover police. Authorities said Bradford had been involved in the first altercation but had not fired the blows that had hurt the other two.

Several investigations are in progress.

Bennett, whose daughter Molly was an innocent bystander when the shots rang, wrote on Calvary on Facebook this weekend. She said Molly and her sister Jessie were shopping with Molly's grandmother.

"They were on the floor, outside of J.C. Penney, when a fight broke out. Shots were fired and one of the bullets hit Molly in the back, "Bennett wrote on Facebook over the weekend. "She said that she had back pain, but she did not even realize that she had been shot at before she surprised my mother on the phone."

A military doctor is busy from Molly until the arrival of Hoover Fire doctors. "A nurse came to help and assured my mother that the doctor was doing everything perfectly," Bennett wrote. "The shoe store employees allowed the doctor to use a shirt on the support to hold the wound under pressure, and they brought a jacket to cover Molly when she was cold."

Once at Children of Alabama, a CT scan showed that Molly had a fractured rib, but that her bullet had not touched the spine. The ball will stay where it is and should not cause him any trouble, said his mother.

On Monday, Bennett asked those who want to do something for Molly to consider doing something for the other children who remain hospitalized. "There are many other children in the hospital who would greatly benefit from your generosity," she said.
