CONCOURSE VILLAGE, Bronx (WABC) –

Police are investigating a mother who was shot dead at her apartment door in the Bronx on Saturday night.

The shooting took place shortly before 22 hours. Saturday at the apartment on the Grand Concourse. Officials said that when Wendy Martinez, 45, went to open the door, a shot was fired through the peephole.

Authorities say the ball hit Martinez in the face. She was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

According to officials, Martinez's 14-year-old son was home at the time of the shooting and called for help.

"This is an innocent woman, a woman worthy of the name who has been loved by the community," said private detective Manuel Gomez.

Gomez is convinced that the shooting was a reprisal of a gang. He helped Wendy's eldest son to be released from jail without bail after discovering evidence in a murder case.

"They have been receiving treats for death for more than two years – documented by a court – DA was also aware, but nothing was done – no protective measures were taken to protect this family, "adds Gomez.

No arrests were made.
