A woman is facing charges related to an assault at a family reunion in Methuen, during which another woman died.
Modesta Gomez, 23, is charged with assault and battery on a person over 60, assault and battery.
The incident occurred late Sunday night in a house on Bicknell Avenue.
Police were called at 21 Bicknell Avenue late Sunday night for reports of a family brawl and an insensitive wife.
Martina Gomez, 63, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The victim reportedly attempted to end a fight between family members while she appeared to be suffering from medical distress.
Family members then called 911.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, officials said.
