Ol & # 39; Dirty Bastard, of the Wu Tang clan, has been considered for some time for biopic treatment. The de facto leader of the group, RZA, explained in 2016 that discussions had taken place. After a silence on a possible film based on the rapper's life, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed today that Columbia Pictures from Sony has started to develop an ODB biopic.
RZA is committed to producing the project currently untitled, although other details remain rare. A search for a prospective director however began. In 2016, RZA revealed that he had refused the opportunity to make such a film, explaining that he preferred to be involved in another, less substantial way.
ODB has become a popular hero in the last years of life thanks to his erratic personality. Throughout his career, he experienced a number of legal problems, and in 2000, he escaped from his drug treatment center under a judicial warrant and was on the run. During his flight, he appeared on stage at the launch party of the third album of Wu-Tang, The wbefore being arrested outside of a McDonald's one month after being reported fleeing.
His FBI file was released in 2012, detailing his links with numerous murders as well as a possible shootout with the NYPD. The rapper was also reported to have suffered from schizophrenia. He died from an accidental drug overdose in 2004 after collapsing at the RZA recording studio in New York.
ODB is not the only rapper to have had a recently announced biopic: The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that Gucci Mane has a biopic under development at Paramount Pictures.
