GALION, Ohio – A 5-year-old boy has been tested positive for methamphetamines, after eating sweets, Galion Community Hospital staff told police Sunday. The boy was taken to the hospital for possible seizure, according to a Galion police report.

The ministry issued a statement on Facebook Sunday night after a resident of Galleon told the police that a boy had fallen ill after eating a candy picked up in a house located in the west of the city.

According to the police report, the parents told hospital staff that the methamphetamine had to come from a candy that the boy ate.

The boy's father told the police that they had come home after being abused and that they had taken off their clothes before the boy spilled, thus making a seizure. The father said his son had only eaten two candies and that he was playing with fake plastic teeth, according to the report.

The officer learned that the candy had been thrown in the trash in a Cedargate court residence. The police went to the residence and collected the candy and plastic teeth from the trash as evidence.

On Monday, Galion Police Chief Brian Saterfield said the boy had been released from the hospital the night before.

"We have brought evidence to the law enforcement laboratory of the Mansfield Police Department and we are waiting for the results," said Saterfield.

An investigation is still ongoing, he added.

"We encourage parents to carefully check all candies that their children have received before eating them," the ministry said in an article posted on Facebook.

"Please also check all items that do not contain candy, such as rings, bracelets, necklaces or fake teeth. If you think something has been tampered with, please contact our service by phone so that one agent can stop and retrieve the items. "
