Between 2008 and 2017, 34 infections were reported in the United States. Among these cases:

  • 30 people were infected by recreational waters,
  • Three people were infected after nasal irrigation with contaminated tap water.

The Surf Resort at BSR Cable Park, where Stabile worked, closed on Friday to test the amoeba, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported. The water park was to remain closed pending the results of the CDC investigation.
