A local woman, who also survived breast cancer four times, is paying the price. After 18 years in the disease, she has made it her mission to save all possible lives. How? By raising awareness about early detection.
Brenda Rocker is the founder and CEO of Project Faith. With this, she ensures that everyone, regardless of age, has access to free mammography screening.
She is a miracle that works, speaks and smiles.
"Myself, I am a breast cancer survivor four times and I have also survived two stages 4," said Rocker. "In the past 2 years, I have been diagnosed with the absence of breast cancer!"
It all started in 1997 when Rocker underwent annual mammography. Rocker remembers very well his darkest days.
"I had cancer that basically invaded my body.It infiltrated all over the chest area and forced me to lose my sternum muscles as well as the ribs that were cut to survive, not survive, "she explained.
It is now his mission to help save lives.
"I've beaten the odds, I've beaten it twice, so the only thing I can think of in the world is helping young women and promoting early cancer detection." breast, "added Rocker.
Through Project Faith, Rocker raises funds for free screenings. She is therefore associated with the Children's Hospital and women of the United States to "pedal".
"It's a fun event to raise awareness about early detection of breast cancer," explained Rocker.
"A relay race of several teams developed from several departments of the hospital," said Eduardo Rel, technical director of radiology at USA Children's and Women's.
The two organizations have partnered for the 3rd time this year for "Pedal for Pink". Rel said that Children and Women's was involved in anything that could help raise public awareness of the disease.
"The detection of breast cancer is very important at the very beginning," said Rel. "I have a patient right now for whom she just had breast cancer screening, she was screened, but thanks to the fact that she caught her early, she was 99% chance of survival. "
