The brother of a man who was found dead Tuesday in a burning New Jersey mansion was charged with arson, according to municipal court records.
The Monmouth Attorney announced Wednesday morning that 51-year-old Paul J. Caneiro had been indicted on a second-degree aggravated fire charge in connection with a fire in his home. home in Ocean Township. Colts Neck Manor.
Two children and two adults were found dead Tuesday in the stately home of Colt's Neck, an upscale community near the Jersey Shore, officials said. Public records show that the mansion that burned on Tuesday belongs to Keith Caneiro, 50, and Jennifer Caneiro, 45.
Law enforcement officials told News 4 that the dead were Keith and Jennifer Caneiro and their two children, whom the authorities have not named publicly.
The sources said Keith was shot in the back and head, while Jennifer and the children were apparently stabbed.
On Tuesday, officials said the fire could be linked to another fire located about 16 km away in Ocean Township, in a house owned by Susan and Paul Caneiro, Keith's brother. While Caneiro was charged with arson in the township of Ocean Township, officials continue to investigate the connection between the two fires.
No one was injured in the Ocean Township fire. However, three severely burned bodies were found inside the mansion at Colts Neck, and a man's body was discovered outside, said Tuesday the Monmouth County Attorney, Christopher Gramiccioni, at a press conference.
"It is important to emphasize that we have no reason to think that anyone in the community is currently in danger," he said.
Firefighters reacted to the fire around 1:30 pm and it was still burning hours later. The video showed firemen fighting the fire as smoke poured from the roof of the two-story house, surrounded by fields and including a large pool.
The images of Chopper 4 showed a leaf in the middle of the yard next to the house, with a police band cordoning off the area.
Colts Neck is a wealthy community located about 80 km south of New York and home to horse farms. The typical houses in the city of 10,000 are valued at around $ 750,000. The 5,700-square-foot mansion that burned has four bedrooms and five bathrooms, according to Zillow. The owners bought the property in 1998 and the house was built in 2003, according to public records.
Caneiro's LinkedIn profile describes him as the chief executive officer and chief technology officer of a New York-based company called Square One. His profile indicates that he earned a Master of Science degree from Columbia University in 2018 and that he had already received certifications from Harvard Business School's online platform.
Earlier in the day, officials announced the burning of the Ocean Township home, about 16 miles from Colts Neck. The public records showed that the house belonged to Paul and Susan Caneiro and that the two men shared at least one address in New York several decades ago.
Paul Caneiro is listed as Vice President of Square One.
