OREGON CITY, Ore – A venomous spider with "potentially medically important" stings was spotted in Oregon for the first time last month.
A brown widow spider was found in Oregon City and the Oregon Department of Agriculture determines if the spider has settled in Oregon.
The brunette widow hails from Africa and is known only in California, the Gulf States and Florida in the United States, according to ODA. He likes to stay hidden and in dark places, officials said.
The spider is known to have an orange hourglass on the underside of his body. It has thorny egg sacs that can be found in dark corners and in other sheltered places.

The brown widow venom is similar to black widow venom, according to ODA.
