According to the California Highway Patrol, two separate bush fires blocked Sunday traffic on the I-505 motorway and Highway 12 in Solano County.

The biggest fire erupted around 11:30 am near the town of Suisun and spread rapidly, covering about 4,500 hectares by Sunday night, fire officials said. The fire has shut down all lanes of Highway 12 near Branscombe Road, the CHP announced.

The corridors reopened at around 12:45, but strong winds continued to propel the flames in the dry grass and scrub, as well as smoke plumes in other areas of the Bay Area, until 39 to Santa Cruz County.

A structure seemed to flare up in what has been called the Branscombe fire, but it was not known whether it was a house or a building.

Earlier Sunday, Interstate 505 was closed for about 45 minutes after a brush fire broke out along that road near Vacaville, the CHP announced. The fire, near Vaca Valley Parkway, closed the connection ramps leading to Interstate 80, the CHP announced.

The lanes in both directions on I-505 were closed for about 45 minutes and the traffic was diverted to the Vaca Valley. All lanes were reopened around 12:15.

No evacuation was ordered, but the HPC urged motorists to move away from the area and advised them to schedule delays.

Several reports report smoke from fires spreading to parts of Alameda, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties.

Police and fire departments in these counties in the Bay Area received several calls about the smoke and urged people not to call 911.
