A bug Facebook Messenger resurfaced discussions from years ago (Update: this is fixed)

Update (10:08, 27 November 2018): A Facebook spokesman told TNW that the bug had been fixed:

Earlier today, some people may have seen Facebook send back older messages. The problem, caused by the software updates, has been fully resolved. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Our original story follows.

Facebook's messenger service acts in the strangest way for some users: it automatically resumes the surface of the conversations of the past, with discussions dating back several years, says The Verge.

Because of this bug, old conversations appear in the Messenger tab of the Facebook site and look like new unread threads. The company told The Verge it was considering resolving the problem as quickly as possible.

Facebook must hurry to scare users: a person who complained about the bug on Twitter said the messages resurfaced had been sent by his partner, who had been dead for some time.

Hopefully the social network will be able to fix what looks like a minor bug before it hits more people. We have contacted Facebook to find out more and will update this post if there is an answer.
