A bus carrying Washington band members made the trip from Seattle to Spokane ahead of the Apple Cup Friday against Washington State, according to John Bryant of the State Patrol from Washington.

No serious injuries were reported, but between 20 and 25 students were taken to local hospitals. There were 56 people in the bus, which ended up on an icy highway just outside the city of George, about 130 km west of Spokane.

"The injuries reported were cuts, complaints of general pain and back pain, but injuries are not considered critical," said University of Washington spokesman Victor Balta, in a statement. communicated. "The University is doing everything in its power to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, as well as to allow them to safely return to Pullman."

It's unclear exactly what happened for the bus to lose control, but the state of the icy road and fog played an important role, said Bryant.

The bus was one of three members of the orchestra and accompanying persons traveling to Spokane, where they would spend the night before traveling to Pullman on Friday.

Bryant did not know if the group of travelers were still planning to arrive in Spokane on Thursday, and the authorities were looking for accommodation on site.
