A stretch of Highway 405 in the San Fernando Valley was closed in both directions on Sunday afternoon after a chartered bus crossed the center line and crashed into another vehicle, causing severe traffic jams. other collisions and injuring more than two dozen people, the authorities said.

The accident occurred around 13 o'clock. in the south lanes of the highway north of Nordhoff Street in North Hills, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. This triggered other vehicle accidents on both sides of the highway.

Twenty-five people were taken to hospitals. Five of them were in serious condition – aged 30 to 88 years – and all others in fair condition with minor injuries, officials said. Fifteen other people were assessed at the scene.

No further details concerning the wounded were available.

The chartered private bus was carrying at least 37 people from a religious event to the Forum in Inglewood, Wescal Haver, California's traffic police officer, told KTLA-TV, Channel 5.

From 7:15 pm Sunday, the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway remain closed around the crash site.
