A Carnival cruise ship enraged at his side for a terrifying minute as he headed for the Caribbean this week, causing "chaos" on the high seas: plates, cutlery, and almost tables collapsed.
The Carnival Sunshine began appearing hours after leaving Port Canaveral, Brevard County, Florida on Sunday night, News 6 reported.
"I did not think about it at all, because it is not uncommon for ships to stagger. But that did not change. He continued to lean, "passenger David Crews of Long Island told the station. "Plates and cutlery started to slide tables. Then the tables themselves started to slide. The glasses and plates began to fall and break. At this point, it was pure chaos. Cree. Weep. Panic."
pics posted on Twitter by News 6 reporter Clay LePard show glassware and broken trays scattered on the floor in a dining room, as well as dozens of bottles of alcohol apparently fallen to the ground.
The passengers quickly lost their legs.
"@CarnivalCruise get me out of this Carnival Sunshine ship," Connie Calvert tweeted. "We have just listed so badly that I am no longer comfortable in this store. Water was flowing into the broken pool glasses in my room and the spilled drink in my suitcase!
"Last night was a very scary experience on the Sunshine," The Twitter user @Daviesgravey wrote Monday. "The starboard side literally felt like being lifted. I was in the dining room at 3 o'clock. All the tables slipped and fell, the glass falling and breaking. People are screaming. And all we get is "We're under investigation."
In a statement to the post office, Carnival blamed the incident on "a technical problem that resulted in the vessel's registration for about a minute" and apologized for "the disruption that this has caused. "
"The safety of the ship was never a problem and our officers quickly intervened to remedy the situation," reads a statement. "The ship remains fully operational and will sail as scheduled on Friday, November 2. We remain confident about the safety of the ship because we are determined to protect the guests and the crew."
The ship remained "fully operational" and continued its journey for one week, the cruise company said. Some passengers still landed and chose to return home earlier when her ship docked in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, the station reported.
The passengers said that they received a note The captain stated that a "malfunction of the electrical switchboard had an impact on the use of the fin stabilizers".
The fin stabilizer is not a safety function, it helps to "minimize any potential movement of the vessel at sea," according to the letter provided at the outlet.
The Carnival Sunshine should return to Port Canaveral on Friday morning.
