Indiana authorities are investigating after a gun was fired by a child who was at an IKEA store in Fishers.
Fishermen's police said that a customer was crossing the IKEA store and stopped to sit on a couch. His gun, which was in his pants, fell into the furniture while the man was moving away, the police said.
Later, a group of children found the gun and one of them pulled the trigger. The gun fired a single shot, but no injuries were reported, according to Fox59.
IKEA officials issued a statement:
"We take this incident very seriously and we offered the family of the child involved our sincerest apologies. The safety and security of customers and colleagues are the top priority of IKEA. We have processes in place to ensure the store is safe for customers and colleagues. For example, our store team regularly organizes security walks and checks before, during and after opening hours. In addition, IKEA does not have a weapons policy in our sites to prevent exactly this kind of situation. As soon as we became aware of the situation, our colleagues took the steps for which they had been trained to ensure customer safety. We cooperate with the police as they investigate this incident"
According to CNN, the police said that the man had a license to carry the weapon.
The case will be forwarded to the Hamilton County Attorney for review.
