With all the time and effort spent on wedding planning, having to postpone the big day may seem like the worst nightmare of many fiances. But when Amber and Chris from Concord, North Carolina, had to postpone their wedding – thanks to Hurricane Florence – by helping other people, that was the first thing they thought.
Reprogramming providers such as restaurant services, music and photographers can be a huge puzzle, not to mention contacting customers about the new date. And things get even more tricky when it's just too late to cancel an urgent order. But that does not mean that these things have to be wasted. When Amber and Chris could not use their wedding flowers, the couple donated them to Concord's Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute. The WCNC reported that the couple did not want to be identified with their full names.
Charlotte's WSOC-TV reported that after completing their treatments, each patient was able to choose a flower arrangement from the flowers ordered by the couple. "Whenever someone does something good for someone who goes through cancer, that's great," said Patricia Riser, a patient of Atrium Health, at WSOC-TV. "And the flowers, of course, are just great. And everyone, everyone loves flowers and I love flowers too.
Giving away their unused flowers was a simple way for Chris and Amber to show their support to other members of their community. Thanks to the tropical storm, these flowers could have been thrown away, if not for the generosity of the couple. The couple's postponed marriage will take place in October, the WCNC said, and it seems that there are now more people for their happiness.
Regarding the effects of the storm, many Charlotte residents were without electricity. According to the Associated Press, the death toll in Florence was 14 people on Sunday morning. Florence has been downgraded and is now a tropical depression, but many people still struggle with the consequences.
