The suspect was later charged with taking a weapon to an officer, possessing methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as a violation of parole.

The arrest of Guyger was announced when Jean's family and his lawyers said they met with Dallas District Attorney Faith Johnson to demand that the police officer be detained.

"We do not need proof beyond a reasonable doubt at this point," Family Lawyer Jean Lee Merritt told reporters Sunday. "At this point, we need a probable cause of a crime. And the existence of the probable cause is painfully clear to everyone. "

Merritt stated that the lawyers have presented to the prosecutors a witness and video evidence, who did not capture the shot, but refused to elaborate. Jean and Guyger had no known relationship before filming, said Merritt.

"We are still dealing in America with blacks killed in the most arbitrary manner, driving all in black, walking in black and now we have to add life in black," said co-counsel Benjamin Crump.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Harding University in Arkansas in 2016. Crump said that John "lived, did everything you want a young man to do".

"He had no criminal background, he was a great student, he was an incredible citizen, he loved God," Crump said.
