The Dallas real estate agent, Laura Avila, 36, was in a coma since October 30, while something was wrong during a rhinoplasty in Ciudad Juarez, the Dallas Morning News reported. Family members told KVIA that there was a problem because Avila was under anesthesia, leaving this 36-year-old man in a coma with serious brain damage.

A family lawyer confirmed Saturday in a statement to the WFAA that Avila had died as a result of the operation.

"Laura was a gorgeous, powerful and full of life woman," said lawyer Larry Friedman in his release. "She had the best of life before her until this tragic, unhappy and senseless death."

Family members told the Morning News that Avila chose to have her surgery in Mexico because it cost less than a third of the price she could find locally. Mexican authorities informed KVIA earlier this month that officials were investigating whether the case amounted to medical negligence.

"For her death not to be in vain, people should think of Laura before looking for a cross-border discount transaction," Friedman told WFAA. "They should do their homework and investigate the experience, training and background of anyone BEFORE registering. Always watch before jumping! "

Laura Avila's younger sister, Angie Avila, remembered her as "the best sister in the world" in a Saturday post on Facebook.

"My heart is painful and I really do not know how I will be able to overcome this pain," she wrote. "It's the love of my life and I know she will continue to watch over me and guide me as she has always done. I love you, Laura Avila. "
