One person was killed when two cars on the Brooklyn Bridge burned after a collision Wednesday morning, forcing the bridge to be closed during morning commutes, fire officials said.
Both cars were traveling on the Brooklyn bridge side at around 7:15 am when an accident with another vehicle made them out of control, said a spokesman for the New York Fire Department. Five people suffered minor injuries.
The firefighters extinguished the flames shortly after 8:00 am, looking for victims, the spokesman said. The bridge lanes connected to Manahttan were reopened around 8:30, but the other side remained closed, the authorities said.
