WEYMOUTH – A man was killed and another man injured in a double shootout Tuesday night in a building in Weymouth, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.

Police responded to reports that shots were fired around 9:30 pm near 81 Rockway Ave., Morrissey said.

Authorities found two men suffering bullet wounds near an entrance to Weymouth Commons.

The two men were taken to South Shore Hospital, where one of them, aged 26, was pronounced dead.

The second victim, who is between 20 and 20 years old, was neat Tuesday night and her condition was unknown, Morrissey said.

Investigators were gathering evidence and interviewing people at the apartment complex Tuesday night, he added.

The authorities were still determining the number of shots fired and Morrissey declined to say whether the investigators were looking for one or more suspects.

"It's a very fluid situation," he said. "We hope to have more information for you in the morning."

Tuesday's assassination is the first homicide committed in Weymouth since the death of police sergeant Michael Chesna in Weymouth in July, authorities said.
