Police opened an investigation into the death of a suspect after the discovery of a rundown skull Friday morning in the yard of a home in Oakland.

Someone found warmth in a house located on 29th Street and West Street, put in their car and drove to the headquarters of the Oakland Police Department.

"My mother has been in the neighborhood for 47 years, my cousin lives here, I can not believe it," said Lola Walker, a resident of Oakland.

The skull was found around 9 o'clock.

"There was a little flesh on it," said Michael Cardoza of Oakland PD. "I am not an expert in this area."

Officials from Alameda County brought the skull to the coroners' office to try to determine the age of the person and the length of his stay.

"We've had a suspicious death recently over the past two weeks, and we're looking into this possibility to see if it's connected," Cardoza said.

The authorities say that in this case, they look at a body without a head, but can not connect the two before the end of the DNA and the autopsy.

"I moved here in 2011, almost seven years ago now, there were a lot of problems here," said resident Fentahun Biwota. "I hope this is not something I know."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakland Police Homicide section at 510-238-3821 or the phone line at 510-238-7950.

No other information was immediately available.
