MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – A dolphin has died from a gunshot wound that occurred earlier this month in Manhattan Beach, southern California, authorities said Friday.
The dolphin was found on November 8 after officials responded to reports of a dolphin washing in the waves and having a bullet impact, Peter Wallerstein of Marine Animal Rescue.
"There is no excuse for such brutality against these beautiful animals," said Marine Animal Rescue on its Facebook page.
Dozens of people left comments expressing shock and sadness.
"There is no word … I only hope that this sick person is caught and realizes what she's done awful to such an innocent and intelligent mammal (sic) who has has been documented time and again to save humans, "wrote Pam Fisher.
A reward of $ 5,000 was offered for information to convict the person who shot the dolphin.
