HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) –

The deputies indicted a 22-year-old man for murder and gun-holding, after running and killing a homeless woman while he was fleeing the authorities.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office told Eyewitness News that the lawsuit had begun around 5:55 am at a roadside check for reckless driving on I-45 in northern Harris County.

According to the Harris County Constabulary Prefecture 1 office, Julian Marcelino Sosa did not stop and proceeded to exit the I-45 at a high speed.

The driver was in the U-turn lane of I-45 near Rankin when he went through all lanes and struck a homeless woman under the viaduct.

Authorities said the driver tried to escape but was found a quarter of a kilometer away.

The police officer's office stated that the woman had been taken to the hospital and that the driver had been arrested.

Sosa was taken to a local hospital for a precautionary examination and a compulsory blood test was performed.

During the suspect's vehicle inventory, deputies reported that a handgun had been found.
