OXON HILL, MD – – The family of a girl who was electrocuted and seriously injured when she touched a lighted railing in MGM's national port launched a lawsuit against the company.
Evan Lambert of FOX 5 got a copy of the lawsuit on Sunday. The lawyers told Lambert that the document was still in its infancy. They say it will probably be tabled this month.
Six-year-old Zynae Green is being treated in an "acute care facility" after spending weeks in the hospital.
According to the lawsuit, the child was electrocuted and suffered a cardiac arrest during the incident.
The lawsuit refers to both the MGM National Harbor and MGM National Grand defendants.
According to the lawsuit, Zynae Green was not the only person injured when she hit the rail. The complaint also states that at least two other family members – Carlos Green, Jr. and Monya Rosier – have been seriously injured.
Carlos Green Jr., 5, and Monya Rosier, 16, were hospitalized for several days because of their injuries, but were released, according to the lawsuit.
The family claims negligence and sues an unspecified amount.
The company issued a statement in response to the complaint.
"The incident at National Harbor was a tragic accident and we are all sorry that Zynae Green and her family continue to suffer. We are committed to continuing to work with the family representative to reach a resolution. In the meantime, we will respond to this legal action in the appropriate court. "
"MGM Resorts hires recognized and reputable construction and inspection companies to perform work that meets or exceeds local and state building codes. The findings of faulty wiring contained in a report published by the county show that the high standards that MGM Resorts expects from these subcontractors have not been met, which is very disturbing and disappointing. We do not compromise safety when building our facilities. "
