Grandi Navi Veloci, the Italian company owning the ferry, said in a statement that strong winds and sea currents prevented the ship from mooring, eventually pushing it into the harbor crane.

The ferry, of a length of 650 feet, was carrying passengers and vehicles at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported by the people on board, according to the company.
