A representative of a Fort Bend County Sheriff was shot in the leg by a suspect who is now barricaded in a Fort Bend County home, authorities said.

This is happening in a block 3,700 house in Lakeridge Canyon Drive, in the Orchard Lake Estates neighborhood.

Sheriff Troy Nehls said that a dispatch had received 911 calls from a woman about a disturbance at home shortly before 5 pm Tuesday.

When deputies arrived and tried to contact the owner, shots were fired. One of those bullets hit a deputy in the leg.

Officers told Eyewitness News that the injured MP was aware when he was taken to Memorial Hermann Sugar Land. Officials feel that he is well and that he is being treated for injuries that do not put his life in danger.

The ABC13 reporter, Jeff Ehling, arrived at the scene and heard two loud bangs that authorities now confirm was the suspect who was shooting at officers as they were entering the house.

Members retreated when the suspect started firing. The SWAT team arrived to try to negotiate with the suspect.

Officials believe that a child can be among the people who are always inside the house with the alleged gunman.

"If the person is listening right now, I let them know that the deputy minister will be okay, it can stop now, just walk out your hands in the air and go peacefully." said Sheriff Nehls.

He added that there is no on-site shelter for homes in the surrounding area.
