An explosion of the gas pipe illuminated the bright orange sky early Monday morning outside Pittsburgh. Meghan Schiller, a CBS journalist in Pittsburgh, who filmed flames heading toward the site of the incident, said Pennsylvania's downtown authorities were evacuating the area around the blast.

CBS News emergency dispatchers said there was no immediate report of injuries. They confirmed that an area of ​​half a mile radius around the explosion was being evacuated. The first call about the explosion to emergency services arrived at 4:54 pm Eastern time.

Center Township is less than 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
