Updated from 6:17 am EDT on October 21st: Police in Gwinnett County announced Sunday morning that a suspect was in custody after the shooting death of a police officer from Gwinnett County on Saturday. Another suspect is still on the run.

Isaiah Pretlow is in custody and charged with aggravated assault with the shooting death of officer Antwan Toney. He is accused of pointing a weapon at an officer during the manhunt.

Tafahree Maynard, who, according to police, fired the shot that killed Toney, is still on the run, the authorities said. The police encourage Maynard to surrender himself. Although the police initially reported having thought of four suspects, she said Sunday morning that Pretlow and Maynard were the only suspects.

Late Saturday, Rikki Klaus of WSB-TV was on Cordite Loop, where the police waited for a warrant to search the house. It is not known if Pretlow was arrested at home.

Toney, 30, was shot dead while he was responding to a suspicious vehicle parked near the Shiloh Intermediate School in Snellville unincorporated on Saturday afternoon, police said. The car was parked on Crumps Landing Road and White Road.

Gwinnett County Sgt Jake Smith said at a press conference that someone had reported the vehicle and that people inside had possibly smoked marijuana.

Toney and another officer approached the vehicle, and it was at that point that someone started firing from inside the car, authorities said.

"Even before they could reach the vehicle, gunshots rang out," Smith said.

Police fought back when an officer took Toney away.

Toney was transported to the Gwinnett Medical Center in critical condition where he died, officials said.

The two-year veteran had just celebrated his third birthday with the department on October 26th.

Smith said that "99.999%" of the time, routine calls did not result in shots.

"It has been tragic," said Smith.

The suspects sped and crashed on Ross Road and Calumet Farm Lane within one kilometer of the shooting scene, got out of the car and ran, authorities said. Police originally said that witnesses would have seen up to four people fleeing.

Saturday night, the car was towed to police headquarters.

The Gwinnett County Police has opened a new 24 hour open tipline and is asking the public for help to learn more about the shooting. They ask anyone with information to call 770-513-5710.

The officer, Antwan Toney, died after being taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center, according to the police department. He had been with Gwinnett Police for three years.

Toney and other officers were reacting to the announcement of a suspicious vehicle parked near Shiloh Middle School on Saturday afternoon, police said.

When the police approached, the suspects shot through the window of their vehicle, hitting Toney before leaving, police spokesman Jake Smith said. The police responded, but it is unclear whether the suspects were hit or injured.

The suspects crushed their vehicle shortly thereafter and up to four people ran out.

Police officers, helicopters, SWAT teams and K-9 units invaded the area to search for suspects, checking nearby buildings and wooded areas. DeKalb County Police have been called to help.

A witness described one of the police suspects as a six-foot-tall man armed with long dreadlocks, green jogging pants and a gray t-shirt. Descriptions of other suspects were not available.

Toney was a member of the Uniform Division of the Gwinnett Police Department and was working on his shift on Saturday.

Toney is the first officer of Gwinnett killed in the performance of his duties for years.

In 1993, agent Chris Magill was killed by a drunk driver while he was in a roadside check with another drunk driver.

Three Gwinnett officers were shot dead in 1964 while they were investigating a "suspicious activity" call near Norcross. The officers – Jerry Everett, Marvin Gravitt and Ralph Davis – were handcuffed together and shot with their own weapons.

Saturday's shootout took place after three shootings involving officers in Georgia on Thursday, which resulted in two deaths.

In one of the previous shootings, a state policeman had been shot at close range along I-75 South in Bartow County, but had survived because he wore a bulletproof vest. According to the Georgian patrol, two soldiers fired back and killed the gunman.

The other shooting death occurred at Monroe when a man with a replica of a Thompson submachine gun allegedly pointed to an officer, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

In the third incident, a suspect shot at the police in Richland. but no one is dead.
