A man who opened fire in a hospital is currently on the run in northern New York State, state police said Saturday.

Joshua Stuart, who is in his 40s, was named as a suspect in a shootout at the Ellenville Regional Hospital on Friday morning, New York State Police said. No one was injured during the shooting.

He fled into a vehicle that was later found abandoned on Ludy Lane in Napanoch, said soldiers.

Stuart is supposed to be armed and extremely dangerous. The last time we saw him, he was wearing a flannel shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.

Police have asked residents of the Ellenville area to check Stuart's surveillance cameras and home surveillance. Ellenville is about 90 miles northwest of New York City in Ulster County.

Hikers have been warned not to use trails in the area.

Anyone who sees a man matching Stuart's description is asked to contact the state police in Middletown at 845-344-5300.
