ST. Louis County, Mo. (KMOV.com) – West St. Louis County police said a man had sexually assaulted at least one woman inside a drug store. 39 Catholic supply and then shot a woman Monday afternoon. The suspect remains on the run.

The shooting occurred in a Catholic supply store located in a shopping center located in the 14000 block of Manchester Road. Police said the suspect also sexually assaulted a person inside the store.
Police said the identified gunshot victim, Jamie Schmidt, 53, of House Springs, did not know the suspect and that the attack appeared to be random. She was a business client.
Schmidt was transported to critical condition in a nearby hospital. She died later, police said.
"She was a great person, the family remained very united," said her sister-in-law Cathy Soulon on Tuesday. "Just a perfect person, she has been a housewife for many, many years, then she finally started to find a job and get out of the social world, and that happens." It's staggering. Police went door-to-door in search of the suspect on Monday night. They say that they do not know if the man has left the scene on foot or by car. No arrests were made.
The St. Louis County Police said they were looking for a white man, aged 45 to 50, 5 feet 7 inches, strong-shouldered, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a big belt. The suspect wore a black or gray hat. He is considered armed and dangerous.
On Tuesday, the St. Louis County PD said the suspect was wearing a gray "paperboy" style hat in a tweet.
St. Louis Catholic supplies belong to the family and not to the archdiocese of St. Louis.
The store then issued the following statement:
We are shocked and saddened by the events that occurred Monday afternoon in our West County. It was a senseless tragedy. Please join us as we pray for the victims and their families.
The safety of our employees and our customers is our top priority. Our points of sale will be closed on Tuesday and will reopen on Wednesday.
