'Increased auroral observations are possible at high latitudes'.

Coronal holes are alarming in images captured by sun observation spacecraft, such as NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) satellite, but they are perfectly safe and normal.

NASA says, "Coronal holes are areas of low density of the sun's atmosphere, known as corona. Because they contain little solar matter, they have lower temperatures and therefore appear much darker than their surroundings.

"The coronal holes are visible in some types of extreme ultraviolet rays, which are generally invisible to our eyes, but colorized here in purple for easy viewing.

"Coronal holes are the source of a high-speed wind of solar particles that flows three times faster than the slow wind elsewhere."
