A hunter shot and killed a British cyclist wearing a colorful helmet and riding a colorful mountain bike in the French Alps on Saturday, prosecutors said.
The 22-year-old hunter, who has not been identified, is under investigation for suspicion of manslaughter after the shooting near Montriond, the prosecutor said. Thonon-Les-Bains, Philippe Toccanier.
The cyclist, identified by local information as Marc Sutton, 34, was riding his mountain bike around 18 hours. when he passed near a group of about 10 game hunters. He was shot on a frequently used but difficult to access track, reported Sky News.
Toccanier said that Sutton "could not be confused with the game because he had a colorful helmet and a colorful mountain bike".
"We are in contact with local authorities about the death of a Briton in France and we are helping his family," said a spokesman for the British Foreign Ministry on Sunday.
The hunter was taken to the hospital for a shock after the shooting.
Sutton is from Wales, UK, but moved to the south of France four years ago. He ran a private catering business and opened his own restaurant earlier this year, according to his Facebook page.
