A restaurant owner in the northwestern suburbs was shot and killed on Thursday morning in Belmont Gardens, in the northwest.

At around 6:45 am, Peter Rim, 46, was a passenger in a vehicle traveling west of 4100 Diversey Avenue when a SUV stopped and there was a verbal exchange, said the Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office,. Someone in the SUV then pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting Rim in the head.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 10:57, authorities said. He lived in South Barrington.

Rim owned an Asian fusion restaurant, Bistro Wasabi, in Lake and the Hills, according to staff.

In a message posted by the restaurant on social media, Rim was described as "wild, fun, energetic and loving." The message says that "Rim has affected many lives here and you miss so much at each of them. You are so loved. Stay calm, Peter.

One of Rim's friends who was with him in the vehicle when he was shot, according to the staff at Bistro Wasabi, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
