A lawyer with Obama, Clinton ties can face federal charges: report

According to a report, a lawyer linked to the Obama and Clinton administrations could face federal charges for failing to register as a foreign agent.

Greg Craig, 73, a former White House advisor under Obama's presidency, is under investigation to find out he's unduly worked as a lobbyist for a group associated with Ukraine, with no restrictions. Register at the Department of Justice first, citing anonymous sources.

According to the report, Craig was a partner in the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, which could also be the subject of charges. Craig left the company in April, the report said.

A Craig lawyer told CNN that his client "was not required to register under the Foreign Agent Registration Act."

Previously, Craig held several positions in the Clinton administration, including helping coordinate the defense of former President Bill Clinton, reported NBC News.

Craig and Skadden probes are linked to former Trump campaign president Paul Manafort, sources told CNN.

In 2012, Manafort reportedly appealed to Skadden's firm during the trial against Yulia Tymoshenko, according to CNN. Tymoshenko was a political rival of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, who was then the client of Manafort.

Craig's former law firm is also facing criminal charges for its alleged role in Tymoshenko's prosecution.

CNN said that sources claim that Skadden's company was hired to write a report on the Tymoshenko trial. The New York Times reported that Craig was involved in promoting the report to members of Congress and the media – efforts that would have required Craig to register as a foreign agent, according to the Times.
