New details on the death of a local race car driver after an accident Thursday night in York County.
The York County Coroner released new details on Friday morning stating that the pilot died on impact in the first lap of the race.
Greg Hodnett, 49, died on the circuit after losing control of his car at the first corner. The car then flipped over and hit a wall. This according to the coroner.
The report states that Hodnett was wearing a seatbelt and helmet. The accident occurred just before nine o'clock last night at BAPS Motor Speedway in York County, formerly known as Susquehanna Speedway.
Newberry Township Police and EMS responded to the scene but it was too late. His family was on the circuit when Hodnett died.
Those who knew him say that Hodnett was popular, friendly and a successful pilot. He lived in the spring grove of Jackson Township. Hodnett was a member of the "The PA Posse" racing crew.
He won the Speedweek title this summer, for the fifth time in his career.
The cause of the accident is being investigated. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.

One of the most popular and most successful track runners in Pennsylvania's history died Thursday night in an accident.
Greg Hodnett was killed on the BAPS Speedway circuit in York County. For years, the track was known as Susquehanna Speedway.
Hodnett was driving when he was involved in an accident around 8:30 pm.
A statement on the Hodnett website says, "Please, keep Sherry, the whole Hodnett family and the Heffner race team in your thoughts and in your prayers." Greg was a professional in every sense of the word, and we will miss it! "
