A Louisiana couple claimed a $ 1.8 million winning ticket for the June 6 Louisiana lottery lottery draw. CBS affiliate, KLFY-TV, reported that the couple had found the ticket while he was cleaning the house – and that it was about to expire.
The station reports that Harold and Tina Ehenrenberg of Mandeville said they found a pair of tickets they had not checked on a bedside table during the cleaning of the Thanksgiving holiday.
"We have family coming to town for Thanksgiving, so I was cleaning the house and I found some lottery tickets on my nightstand that we had not checked," said Tina Ehrenberg at KNOE.
The couple had only two weeks to claim their prize – a jackpot that had to be claimed within 180 days of the draw. "We kept checking the numbers again and again," said Harold. "Plus, I've called the hotline some winning numbers over and over."
The couple received about $ 1.27 million after state tax deductions and federal taxes. They plan to put money aside for retirement.
