A magnitude 4.1 earthquake hits near Tres Pinos, California

The United States Geological Survey reports that three earthquakes near Hollister rocked central California on Friday morning.

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck 12 miles from Hollister and 19 miles from Salinas at 4:58 min, at a depth of 0.6 km. Three minutes later, at 5:01 am, the USGS reported an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 in the same area. And shortly thereafter, a third earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 was reported.

There was no initial word on the damage or injuries resulting from the earthquakes. More information on this earthquake is available on the USGS event page.

Residents in the area went on Twitter to report feeling the shaker.

"My colleagues texted in our gc at 6am because we had just had an earthquake and their messages woke me up, and then I felt another earthquake then that I was lying in my bed, trying to go back to sleep … I must love California, "wrote @flickernouis.

"Why am I awake?" Oh yes … the earthquake has woken me up. "I swear I shocked California saying we do not have any anymore, and ALL of a SUDIN it goes on, "said @ivheather.
