A man appeared in court for murder after the death of a pregnant woman at the crossbow at her home in East London.
Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo appeared Tuesday in Barkingside District Court for the murder of Devi Unmathallegadoo. He will appear at Old Bailey on November 15th.
Devi Unmathallegadoo, 35, was shot in the stomach at her home in Ilford at 7:40 am on Monday. She was taken to hospital where her death was pronounced at 11 o'clock. The doctors managed to deliver the baby, named Ibrahim, by emergency caesarean section. Police said that he was in the hospital in a stable state.
Devi Unmathallegadoo was unofficially known as Sana Muhammad after marrying Imtiaz Muhammad. He told the Evening Standard: "The arrow is mounted in his heart but did not touch the unborn baby. The baby had to give birth in four weeks. They operated with the arrow still inside, as it would have been too dangerous to go out.
"She was a wonderful mother and a great woman. We were together seven years. I have a broken heart. We were inseparable.
Police confirmed that Ramanodge and Devi Unmathallegadoo knew each other and said they were not looking for anyone else as part of the attack.
Neighbor Nisa Khan, who has known Devi Unmathallegadoo for eight years, said, "She was kind and caring and was a wonderful mother. This was a very good, lovely woman. She was a close friend, we shared our problems and talked for hours. She did everything for her children – they were her world. "
DCI Gary Holmes of the Metropolitan Police Responsible for Homicide and Major Crimes said, "This is a tragic incident and we express our sympathy for the loved ones and friends of the victim."
