A 22-year-old man was charged with first degree murder following the death of Celia Barquin Arozamena, Iowa State Golf, Big 12 Champion in 2018 and Female Athlete of the Year.

Barquin Arozamena, 22, was found dead Monday at a golf course in Ames, Iowa. Ames police announced Monday night that Collin Daniel Richards had been indicted following an investigation by several law enforcement agencies. Officers were called to the Coldwater Golf Course Monday morning after golfers found a golf bag without anyone. The officers found Barquin Arozamena's body "some distance away" and determined that she had been assaulted. A cause of death has not been determined.

According to a press release from the Ames police, Richards has no known address.

Originally from Spain, Barquin Arozamena completed his eligibility this spring but stayed at school to complete his engineering degree in the fall semester.

Barquin Arozamena won the Big 12 by three strokes in April. Funeral arrangements are pending for Barquin Arozamena, who will be honored at the Iowa State's home football game on Saturday.
