A man was arrested Thursday in Cher Malibu's house while the singer was on tour in Australia.
Donovan Ruiz, 23, is the son of Cher's assistant, Jen Ruiz, who has been with him for 25 years. He was at home while the singer was on an international tour.
The Ventura County Police came home after learning that the man was linked to a recent overdose in Thousand Oaks, California. A search warrant has been issued to search the house, ABC Eyewitness News reported on Friday.
"His arrest is related to a narcotic overdose that occurred in the past two weeks," said the sergeant. Eric Buschow told People Thursday.
Ruiz is accused of providing drugs, especially Fentanyl, to residents of Ventura and Los Angeles counties. A written statement prepared by Sgt. Matthew Young of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office specifically alleges that he sold narcotics to a victim in Thousand Oaks, who then overdosed and died in mid-September.
"The detectives located and detained Ruiz in Malibu and served a signed search warrant at his residence located in the 25,000 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu," the statement said. "During this investigation, the investigators were able to seize evidence related to the sale of illegal substances controlled by Ruiz."
The night of Ruiz's arrest, patrol cars, fire trucks and ambulances invaded Cher's home. Sgt. Buschow confirmed to People that Cher, 72, had nothing to do with the incident. Ruiz was detained.
Ruiz has been charged with selling a controlled substance and additional charges will likely be related to the overdose. Ruiz is currently held on bail of $ 500,000 and must be arrested Monday in the Superior Court of Ventura County.
