A missing, 10-year-old girl was found dead in Alaska and a 41-year-old man was arrested by the FBI in connection with the disappearance.

Ashley Johnson-Barr was reported missing on September 6 in Kotzebue, a remote town of Inupiat Eskimo on the northwest coast of Alaska.

His body was found Friday east of the city, said the soldiers of Alaska.

Peter Wilson has been accused of making false statements to FBI agents assigned to the case, FBI spokeswoman Staci Feger-Pellessier said Friday.

Ashley was going home when she disappeared. She was last seen playing with friends at Rainbow Park.

Investigators found his cell phone 800 meters from the park. The location was in the opposite direction of his house in the community of 3,100 people.

"After eight days, Ashley's search has come to an unfortunate end, "said the soldiers in a statement.

Earlier Friday, Ashley's father, Walter "Scotty" Barr, said in a text message that his daughter was a "very happy person" who "always smiled, no matter," according to the Anchorage Daily News.

Associated Press contributed to this report.
